Hi guys,
I know I've been dealing with this issue for a while, but after much consultation and lot's of reference material purchases it's come down to this.
1. When the system is off, and the key is out, the motor is hot.
2. If the only thing attached to the wiper motor is the hot (red) wire, the motor goes hot and energizes the secondary systems including the wiper solenoid circuit, measured from the motor side connectors.
3. If the car sits with only the hot (red) wire attached and the motor is grounded, it (the motor) becomes physically hot.
My understanding is that the hot circuit is broken by the, normally open, relay contact inside the motor. If nothing but the hot wire and ground are connected, it indicates that the circuit is complete. I measure 12+ Volts to ground. If that is so, then that relay contact must be closed and closed on its own, with no help from any other possible circuit. If that is so, then the motor's relay is bad.
Now, this is a brand new motor and pump and it has been represented to me that this is the one and only replacement pump available for the 68. Am I screwed? Is this a bad, new motor? I'm a little upset because once you take this out of the bag, it's yours. You kind of have to assume something brand new is functional. Is it possible that there was another configuration for post 68 cars? should this circuit be hot in later cars? I'm at the limit of my knowledge.
Thanx
