    '75 Fiberglass Concerns

Recently I was giving my '75 a thorough cleaning and noticed what I believe may be early indications of cracking in the fiberglass around my rear fender. I certainly do not want this to become visible and or actually become a crack in the body. Are there any preventative measures that I can take that will help ease my fears? Please help! Thanks!

Unfortunately, there exist no preventitive measures that I am aware of with respect to preventing further cracking of your fiberglass. Sometimes, the cracking begins and stops. But, sometimes it proceeds inexorably. Usually, cracking begins at body panel joints. This type of cracking usually progresses, but at a relatively slow rate. Another common type of crack is a so-called star crack. This crack usually is seen on a fender area, where a stone has impacted from beneath.

Corvette body cracks are a way of life with Corvettes. Usually, when it's time to re-paint, it's the time to perform remediation of the cracks. It's still a lot better than rust which afflicts most cars.

I have a 75 that I am restoring and the quarter panels are also cracked. I have seen this on alot of original paint 74 & 75 cars. The cracks grow to about one to two inches. Your problem will keep getting worse unless you have them repaired. Find a good body guy. Good luck! Vito
