on my 63 non matching motor, reads L 10 8 along with the ce numbers, assuming it is a 68 motor, my question is the alt,fan belt runs real close to my lower radiator hose to the point where it is actually touching it every so often and wearing a groove in it, afraid it is going to blow open at some point, everything looks lined up,any ideas on how to solve this problem? i am kind of in the learning process here so any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: C2 belt
assuming you have the correct alt. bracketry, I'd suspect the lower radiator hose is either a non-GM replacement that isn't positioned correctly or the correct GM hose is mal-positioned. .if the later is the case, loosen hose clamps then rotate hose counterclockwise when viewed from the rear of the car(at the hose-radiator junction). good luck, mike- Top

Re: C2 belt
It is possible to put the hose in backwards. I had the same problem I reversed the hose, radiator end to water pump and water pump end to radiator. It worked fine. You could also check and see if you have the correct size/diameter pullies. If the lower pullie is too large it will lower the belt towards the radiator hose.- Top

Re: C2 belt
Others have given you sound advice (check the 'plumbing' -- correct pulleys, hoses, installation/orientation). There should be adequate clearance between belt and hose resulting in the belt NEVER touching the hose. If there's any appreciable wear in the hose, TAKE NO CHANCES and replace the hose NOW!
The very last thing you want is to be driving at highway speed and lose a lower rad hose! Coolant will POUR out of both the radiator and the block's water jacket SO FAST, your dash temp gauge may not give you adequate warning to shut down and save the engine from overheat damage.... Been there--saw a fellow member 'grenade' his freshly restored '61 FI coming back from the Galveston National Convention!- Top
