    windshield wiper

Hello, I have a 72 that i was putting in speakers in the dash and now the wipers do not work it just makes a clicking noise in the solinoid thats just underneath the shifter. i tried to direct wire it thinking that it was the switch but it did the same thing and the wipers do not even try to work. they worked fine before this. Any ideas? Thanks Eric

Theory of operation along with trouble shooting tips is given in your copy of the 1972 Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual (CSM) under the windshield wiper section. You'll see there's a special sub-section devoted to the Corvette WSW door and the sub-systems are inter-related.

Wiper motor has interlocks to prevent start-up until the wiper door is known to have been vacuum actuated into it up/open position. Same in reverse shut-down mode, wiper door will refuse to close until the wiper arms are in their stop-park position.

Last, you should find text there for troubleshooting the wiper motor both on and off the car repleat with instructions on how to jumper this/that feature to force/verify proper operation of various aspects of the wiper motor and washer assy's.

      PS

Your copy of the owners manual tells you about the car's over-ride controls (located directly beneath the steering column. There are two vac switches + one electrical switch there. They allow service functions. One vac switch defeats the wiper door from closing (assist in changing wiper blades + convenient for driving in mist where you want to occasionally 'pulse' the wipers without waiting for the wiper door to open/close), another vac switch overrides the HL doors (assist in changing lamps). And, the center electrical switch 'freezes' the wiper motor to stop it (another assist for changing wiper blades). Sometimes, owners accidentally 'bump' these override switches, are unfamiliar with their operation, and spend futile diagnostic time trying to understand what's 'broken' in their WSW system....

Jack's advise is good. Read the manuals. Pay attention to the grounding and the way the connection is on the switch. If you put it on backwards it will do just what is happening. Hope this helps
