I have a 67 that I may want to buy a different rear end ( complete 3rd member) is there a disadvantage to earlier models? Are some years "stronger" than others? What years should I stay away from in terms of strength and what are the best?

Re: C2 rear end swap???
Interesting point Wayne....what changed in 75? I had heard that the case hardened ends of the stub yokes were not as effectively QC'ed and wear through the hardening easier, but nothing about the actual cases or posi units. But I know you are in the business, so I was curious what wear you find on the 75 up units...thx!....Craig- Top

Re: C2 rear end swap???
Actually that is the problem that I was refering to. There seems to be more wear in the gears etc., but it is probably a result of all of the metal ground up in there. Later ones especially 80-82 after the change, seem to have a lot of whining problems. It is interesting that the General would never admit that there was a problem with the rears, or that they did anything differently, but during the dreaded mid 70`s there was definitly a problem. the problems started in 74 and came to a peak in 79 with almost all of them developing the problem, especially the 370 gears.- Top

Re: C2 rear end swap???
Thx for the insight Wayne...it sounds like most of the problems stem from the stub yoke issues....I guess the moral is use international axle yokes or the rebuilt units with the hardened through ends...Craig- Top
