    TI distributor cap

I have a late 65 FI car with TI. In the Tech and Judging Manual it says all ditributor caps were Delco-Remy Patent pending, with no "R". I was looking through the driveline and someone has a TI distributor cap for sale??? Was there a different cap for TI cars? Jerry

    Re: TI distributor cap

Yes, non-FI cars used Delco-Remy D308 while FI cars used D310. Caps are identical in terms of markings. Difference is the FI/D310 cap has slightly shorter plug wire towers to generate clearance under the distributor shielding.

No, for any given application TI caps were the same as non-TI caps.

Bob: i agree. years ago the popular feeling was that the brown caps with brass terminals were TI +/or L-88 caps. Believe it was bill clupper who identified the brown caps as service replacements.mike

Re: Did TI make a difference?

I ran the TI system from the "12 mile L-88" on my SWC for about 5 years/50,000 miles and sold it to David Burroughs circa 1988 for installation back on the original car. I personally removed the TI system from said L-88 in 1967, and it had a brown distributor cap with copper terminals.

It was always my understanding until recently that all TI systems used this brown cap, but discussions on this board corrected my understanding, and I now understand that they were only OE on Corvettes with L-88 or ZL-1 options.

                Brown TI Distributor Caps

I was sold one of these caps by a NCRS member. He indicated that this cap was correct for my 65 "396"! Was I bent over without the aid of lub? Say its not true. Dale

my 64,65 and 66 had the TI and all had black caps and suppresion plug wire even without a radio on my 65 396. the 68 and 69 L-88s that i worked on had the brown cap, copper contacts and if my memory serves me they also came with solid plug wire, orange packard 440.
