    C1 upper windshield molding

I have a C1 upper windshield molding with a couple pf screw holes that shouldn't be there. Is there anyone out there that repairs these kind of problems? I can weld the holes up myself, but it will look like I did it if I do! Obviously a job for a pro.

ed--you'll have to experiment with various stainless steel wire in your mig welder, grind, sand and buff in order to compare color of various welding wire/rods available.mike

That's why I was sort of hoping to find someone who had already invented that particular wheel.

          Ed,
I used some 304 stainless wire in my MIG welder and after grinding and polishing, the repair had a different color to it. After flash chroming the moulding however, it is undetectable. There used to be a guy in my Austin who did this type of work, and his repairs were perfect. He used a TIG welder and applied shielding gas to both sides of of the moulding and used a different alloy of stainless. After doing a couple of these repairs, I figured that my time was better spent doing something else! If I ever get myself a TIG unit, I may try this again, but could not get the precise heat control I needed with the MIG welder, and I had real metal distortion problems. I would guess that with the thickness of your windshield header, this distortion would not be a real issue.

          Regards, John McGraw

Thanks, John. I found a guy in NY who does this sort of thing and I think this is one I'd be better off sending out. I try to do almost everything myself, but I guess you can't be an expert at all of it.
