C3 I just got home with my basket case....

    Now where to start??

I want to start taking everything apart and to really inspect the car to find out where I have damage and if I have any rust.
The frame looks solid but I still need to check it and the bird cage.
The gas tank doesnt have the build sheet on it so I hope I can find one stashed somewhere in the frame or behind the dash...

anyway Ill be on here picking your brains alot more!

        Hi Johnny,

found my building sheet in the left frame rail, about 15 inches behind the hole where the steering gear is fixed.

Well, that's a lot of work to do. But I think it is worth it.

            Sometimes....

you'll be inverted in the driver's seat working up under the instrument panel when this 'wild flying bat' comes SCREAMING into your face.... I hit the sensory overload panic button the first time it happened to me!

Seems some assy folks stuffed a copy of the build sheet between the speedo and tach clusters and more than one Shark owner has found a clean copy (or two; these were often multi-part carbon copy papers printed via Teletype) IF the main instrument cluster hasn't been pulled by a prior owner/mechanic....

              Re: Sometimes....

Well I just looked behind the instrument cluster and nothing there
But it does appear that the dash pieces are still good with some rust on the back sides but they are not cracked look great really....
I guess Ill have to wait until I dismantle the car and hope I can find one somewhere..any other ideas?

Sorry for the silly question, but how did you determine that the Order Copy wasn't on the tank? If you were like me, I attempted to find it by looking through over the rubber "boot" at the gas cap area. I couldn't see anything, but when I dropped the tank, the document was there but more to the left than I expected.

Well the tank was already removed and all thats left is some glue.
Im in contact with one of the previous owners and Hopefully I can trace some more paper work.

Re: C3 I just got home with my basket case....

                    Hi Johnny,

                    about the frame rail ...

I found a little piece of order copy on my tank (about 1 square inch) - pure paper with no letters on it.

Two years later (1997-98) I have done a frame-off restauration of my car. When the frame was completed (assembled and painted) the next step was to seal it with wax. I put the jet (?) about 20 inches into the frame to the rear and it stucked. First thought: a nest of mice! You don't recognize anything in that dark frame. In this way I took a wire and made a hook on it. After several tries I got the left half of the order copy! Some tries later I got 85% of it. And thats all. I got the dealer zone and number and a complete list of the RPOs of my Vette.

                    Hope you'll be sucessful
                    Klaus
