I have a 64 with the AFB. According to the corvette catalogs they show an exploded view of the carb assy to the intake manifold. They show a stainless steel baffle between the insulator and the carb, but no seal type gaskets. The service manual doesn't address the gaskets. Are you suppose to use some form of sealant on the SS baffle to prevent air leaks? Thanks, Joe

Re: C2 300HP AFB
From bottom to top the installation order is gasket - insulator - heat shield (thin metal "shim"). The heat shield protects the bottom of the carb from direct impingement of exhaust gases.
No sealers of any kind are needed nor should be used. If you don't have a copy of the '64 AIM you should procure one as it answers nearly all these types of assembly questions, including the use of sealers and lubricants as practiced by the assembly operation.

Joe:
My '65 300hp/Powerglide has the same intake-to-carb gasketry. I've just got the car running, and I've assembled it according to the AIM: from the intake manifold; a gasket, the plastic (?) spacer, and the metal shim. Runs like a clock, with no vacuum leaks whatsoever.
I did, however, place 1/2" plugs into the intake manifold at the carb mounting flange to reduce the exhaust heat from coming up into the carburetor from the heads through the intake. Even though I live in northern Idaho, I don't need that type of heat directed at the base of the carb.
