Can someone give me some information about dating? Should all engine dates precede the body build date, the engine build date or both?

The block, head, intake and water pump casting dates and distributor date will always precede the engine assembly date stamped on the front pad (all other dated external components were installed at St. Louis). The engine assembly date will precede the body build date on St. Louis bodies, but frequently will not on A.O. Smith-bodied cars, which usually took 7-10 days from their body build date to get on the Trim Line at St. Louis.
