1972 coupe grille color

Recently had a collision with a deer and wiped out the right front grille and cracked the lower fascia on my 1972 454 coupe. Fortunately the small size of the deer and strong bumper limited the damage. I ordered and received a new grille from Eckler's. It is gray colored inside the eggcrates and below the parking lamp. My original grille had a satin black coloring inside and on the edge of the eggcrate portion. Do I need to repaint my new part or is the gray color correct? Thanks for your response!

The gray color offered on the currently available grilles is incorrect. The correct color code for the correct very dark gray is available in the Archives. I'd paint both as well as your center grille while you're at it. A PITA to paint, but satisfying when they look brand new.

BTW, odds are you have a 1971-correct unit. It will have the hole for the fiber optics in the rear upper corner of the turn signal unit.

Why? Because a 1971 unit will service 1970 or 1972. Judges do look for the hole, if you care.
