    TI Alternator for 68

Well, I finally did it! I bought my first part on eBay. Some of you may have seen the auction. It was for a 7L13 1100696 alternator. I've just reviewed the archives (which I should have done first) and now I see that there are some counterfeit 696's out there. I'm not sure if I paid too much for an original, got lucky, or should go buy some Vaseline for my goof.

    Now the questions:

    1) How would I recognize a counterfeit alternator?

    2) Is a 7L13 too "early" for an April 68 build date?

    3) Someone please explain by what the TIM&JG describes for a 68 alternator (rear core at 3 o'clock position, etc).

Probably would be hard to tell a "counterfeit" one from a real one UNLESS they were put side by side OR the spacing and font of the numbers were "NOTICEABLY" different than "USUAL". 6 months is the "acceptable" recognized time frame. My '68 convertible, #18434, body build is May 6th and #696 alternator date of like April 17th. The "THREE" 'o clock position is meant by how the "back" is turned. When the alternator is installed in the car, your RED post wire is at the top, and the blue/white wire plug is nearest the left valve cover.

Saw the eBay pics. It is turned correctly for a '68. By the looks of the non'deepgroove pulley, it came off of an A/C 350hp, 390hp or 400hp car. The non A/C cars had the larger deep groove pulley with the machined face.
