Pat and I are going to Hershey, and are registered for the convention. Several of my Chapter members want to drive up from Baltimore for the day, just to look at the cars. I've gotten a few calls asking about the admission policy, and I don't know the answer. Question: Do they have to pay? Do they have to register for the convention? Is there a "daily" admission cost, or a "day pass"? Chuck

Re: Hershey Convention "Day Tripper" Question
Chuck,
At our annual board meeting in March, the board of directors adopted the following policy regarding the convention.
A member may attend the convention for ONE single day only and pay the normal "gate fee" that the general public is charged. The day pass entitles the member to only view the cars and does not allow the individual to attend or participate in any functions such as meals, tech sessions, judging schools, meetings or other activities. Day passes are good for ONE day only. If a member returns a second day they will be required to pay the full registration fee and late fee for the convention.- Top

Re: Hershey Convention "Day Tripper" Question
From what I know, admission of the general public, and whether or not to charge an entrance fee is left to the discretion of the organising chapter(s). I've never heard of an event where the general public (even non-members in good standing wearing Vettehead stuff) is not welcome to view the cars.According to what what I've read, the Hershey event will be no different.
I regret not being able to attend this years event, SWMBO and I will be visiting the old country trying to avoid BTDF.- Top

Re: Hershey Convention "Day Tripper" Question
Were you by chance at the National Convention that was a held in the last few years ago at Bowling Green (I don't recall what year it was).
A long time NCRS member who lived some number of hours away was going to be in the Bowling Green area on business during the time of that convention. This person wanted to just stop by for a few hours, renew some old acquaintances, and look at the cars.
Not knowing any better, this person just stopped in, figuring that he would be welcomed to the event with open arms.
He was told to leave the convention area because someone in the convention organization knew that 1) this person was an NCRS member, and 2) this person had not registered for the event.
It is still not clear to me if non-NCRS members could walk around and look at the cars without being hassled by someone, but non-registered NCRS members were definitely hassled.
I know of more than one occasion where NCRS members either were denied permission to attend NCRS events that were open to the general public or decided not to register and pay a late fee (something like $80 total) for a couple hours of looking at cars.
This new policy makes sense, and no longer punishes people for being NCRS members.
OK, off my soapbox now.- Top

Re: Hershey Convention "Day Tripper" Question
Yup, I was there and heard about the event. I had hoped to meet the person you were referring to, being that we both admire the 1973 model year.
I've also recounted a similar event on 'the other' web site.

Re: Hershey Convention "Day Tripper" Question
That makes three of us that admire the 1973s. This was the first Corvette that I remember as being a new car. I became aware of the world around me in 1972, before the intro of the 1973 Corvette.
I am now back to being totally unaware of the world around me. I wonder what that says...- Top

Re: Hershey Convention "Day Tripper" Question
At Monterey last year I met up with some non-NCRS member friends from the Bay area on Saturday, and they bought admission to the display area. I think it was five bucks - maybe Vinnie can confirm. Seems reasonable to let a NCRS member who is not registered for the event into the display area under the same terms and conditions as the general public.
Asking a member who just wants to look at the cars to leave because he is not registerd when the general public is invited for a nominal fee is pretty tacky.

I thought you did quite well visiting a recent event, even with certain attire...

Re: Hershey Convention "Day Tripper" Question
Thank you, Vinnie. That seems like a very reasonable policy. Baltimore is only about a 1 1/2 hour drive from Hershey, and a lot of guys just want to go up for the day to check things out. Thanks for the response. Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight
