    Clunk when shifting

My '63 340 4-speed now has a very loud clunk when shifting under almost any load. It is quiet when I ease it through the gears. I did check the half shaft and drive shaft u joints by trying to move them with my bhands while under the car and they seemed tight. I replaced the snubber bushing last year before I replaced the diff seal. The new bushing did get wet from the diff fluid.Any insight is appreciated.

    Peter,
The leaking pinion seal may be clue. Check out pinion bearing. Does it groan when you deaccelerate? If so this may screw up gear backlash thus the noise as you shift.
