    C2 A/C questions

    Hello,

I have a 66 327/300hp roadster with factory air that has been converted to RV276 by a past owner. Is there a minimum outside temperature that is required for the A/C to blow cold? It was around 68 degrees today and I wanted to check the A/C after getting the car out of storage and the A/C seemed pretty warm.

What is required to convert to 134 and still be able to keep a factory appearance, or should I attempt to try and find R12 and go that route if the system is currently not working properly.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ian

I have a 65 that I had 134 in for one year. It worked ok but I went back to R-12 (and put a new cross flow condenser in at the same time) and gained 6-8 degrees. I am not familiar with rv276. To convert to anything else I would recommend having the dryer rebuilt and possibly flushing the system - what type of oil that is in it is also a consideration. I use Classic Auto Air, Tampa, 813-251-2356, and have been very satisfied with their service. Their advice has always been good for me. The air should blow cold no matter what the outside temp. I have a cheap thermometer that I can put in the air vent. Even if it is not exact, it will be consistant and you can see what it reads in your daily driver. Don H.

Going back to R12 is what I would really like to do but I don't know where I could get it done here in Milwaukee and be able to trust the work. The few people I have talked with in the past have made it seem that R12 is no longer an option and is unavailable. Any ideas?

I have not checked this out, I read somewhere that to have a R12 system serviced at a GM dealership, the R12 was less expensive than what private garages are charging per pound. Wish we the people had to power to overturn the prevention of R12 being manufactured in the US and put it on the shelves again for use.
