1972 Assembly Manual Adhesives & Cements

For my 1972, the Assembly manual lists Adhesive # 151 & Cement # 194 to be used for 'Windshield Pillar Weather stripping' & 'T-top Panel Weather stripping' areas. For the Adhesive # 151 I plan on using 3M 80010 Super Weathergrip Adhesive (yellow). Any suggestions as to what I should be using for the Cement # 194?
    Thanks Wes

Sorry Wes, I can't help you with the #194....but I CAN attest to the 3M adhesive. It works wonders. I have used it on my '72 to adhere the spec plate and woodgrain applique to my center console plate...I have even used it to hold my new carpet down in the passenger side footwell, where it kept popping up in one particular spot. Good luck finding #194

On my 70, the AIM shows three sealant/adhesive products used in the pillar post and T-top areas. In the T-top area, only two of these are used.

First, there is the weatherstrip adhesive, which you have correctly identified, but the part number in my catalog is different: 051135-08001. Use the yellow carelessly and you will be just like factory.

Second, there is a "sealing compound", which a gray, pliable, non-hardening material. This is used to seal the pillar reveal molding to the birdcage pillar and the T-top rear locating wedge. If you are only replacing the weatherstrips, you probably won't get into this stuff, but 3M still makes a similar product called "Strip-Calk" (051135-08578). It is different from the gray stuff in that it is more sticky and it is black, but it is also non-hardening for the same type application.

The third product is a "plastic seam cement", not to be confused with "seam sealer" which hardens. As I recall this product was used to seal between the weatherstip retainer and the windshield reveal molding. It is like the "Strip-Calk" described above in that it is more sticky than the gray stuff and appeared to be applied as a ribbon between the two trim pieces. Again, if you are only changing the weatherstrips, you aren't going to get into this probably, but if you do the "Strip-Calk" would work as a good replacement sealant.
