Re: Blast Index...
I think one of the Road and Track editors came up with the "fun factor" -"blast index" or whatever he called it at least 15 years ago.
A friend came by last Saturday to take me out for a birthday (mine) lunch and drove his newly acquired '70 Porsche 911S, a very nice original 70K mile car with new paint and seat coverings. He sold his '94 RS America to buy the '70. Now, I really never cared for the RS, or for 911s in general, but the '70 S is a jewel. It has that visceral quality that oozes from vintage sports cars that modern cars just can't duplicate. No doubt it's slower than the RS, especially with the early Porsche "mystery shifter" and the need to double clutch going from first to second to avoid the "grunch", but it's sure is a lot more fun than the RS.
What REALLY amazed me is that it for a car that old it actually has comfortable seats, and, or course, a mechanical symphony of sound both inside and outside the car.
