    C2 Transmission

I have recently incurred shifter problems.
I have a four speed shifter and once I take off and reach 4th gear, I can only shift back down as far as 3rd. In order to get back to 1st and 2nd I have to come to a complete stop and find 1st. I sometimes shift it into reverse by accident due to the shifter not being aligned.
The gears seem to be much closer together than normal and the lock out pin must have already snapped.
How can I tell if the shifter is a after market or a Hurst ,

Could the problem be the alignment of the shifter or could it be the tranny itself.

    Thanks

sounds like shifter needs adjusted. the shop manual has detailed instructions. also the AIM shows a picture of the original shifter. Hurst shifters almost always have the hurst name stamped under the chrome plating of the shifter shaft below the shifter ball near where the shifter shaft penetrates the floor pan/console.Follow shop manual and you'll be able to pull fast shifts assuming the problem isn't in the tranny itself which i doubt from your description.good luck, mike
