    1965 owners pin and patch

I have an original owners pin and patch for a midyear. Are these patches and pins different from year to year or the same. How about the pin. I know these are available today buy different sources. I also thought the original pins were gold. In judging does any of these items help in points?

    Thanks in advance!

The original patches and pins were all the same. There are reproductions of both out there but they are of "different" quality. They are no help in the NCRS judging process. The original pins say 10K as Clem mentioned and have a press tab backer piece. They came on a piece of feltlike material inside a small plastic box which had a light blue bottom and clear top. Most of these pins and patches came with Owners kits prior to 1967.

        Add-on....

By 'no help' Dave refers to the context of factory concours judging. At NCRS, the 'target' is make the car appear as originally shipped from the factory complete with then current dealer setup. As such, the tear-out in the owner's manual to send away for your patch/pin WOULD have been intact and there would be no patch/pin in the possession of the owner....

At NCCB (Bloomington) the 'stage' for judging varies slightly. The car is judged as it would have appeared on the dealer showroom floor. This implies there should be a 'window sticker' present on cars built after '59-60 vs. the removal of the Manroney sticker due to dealer prep at NCRS.

So, there are subtile differences in 'presentation' depending on whose factory concours judging field you opt to campaign the car with. But, none of the major circuits look for post-sale components like the patch/pin. These are generally held by the serious restorer as a matter of pride vs. scoring points and ARE valuable items to a number of owners....

-------Dave is mostly correct when he says that the pins were all the same. The artwork was indeed the same, however GM had more than one supplier of the owners pins over the years, and there are small differences!...........Bill S
