    matching VIN's

I have a question that has probably been asked a thousand times. So, for the thousand and one time...is it possible to "Top Flight" a corvette(62) if the VIN's (on engine and VIN tag) don't match? Let's say that the casting # and casting date, are all within correct time frame and the suffix code on pad is correct. If the rest of the car is worthy, is it possible to still "Top Flight" the car? Thanks in advance, Steve.

    Re: matching VIN's

if all you loose on the pad, 50 points total for incorrect vin and engine assembly data, its quite possible to even Duntov the car since 50 out of 4500 is a little over 1% off and all you need to duntov is 97%. mike

Thanks Mike. I've owned the car for 27 years. It was an original 340 HP car. Shortly after I bought the car, I bought a 340HP block, RE code. The block was cast 15th of May 62, and my car was made on the 11th of July. I have always wanted to take it to an NCRS meet but thought I would loose too many points because of the block. I may now have to reconsider. Thanks, Steve

        Common concern....

my engine 'numbers' don't match, ergo I'm some kind of second class citizen at NCRS. FALSE!!!!!!

The club is the only factory concours Corvette organization that encourages owner use of the vehicle as a driver car and allows/encourages members to bring their cars to the judging field by giving 'milage driven' credits during judging.... It's EASY to move up one full level (say, 2nd Flight to Top Flight) by simply putting gas in your tank and DRIVING the car to a meet while others tug their trailer queens along the highway/byways in an enclosed car hauler. You stand JUST as tall in the awards ceremony as any other member achieving Top Flight status with your milage driven bonus.

Get the NCRS Judging Reference Manual (the 'white book') and read up on club rules regarding the club's various award/recognition programs. Also, take a look at the Founder's Award while you're there. It's a GREAT way to have/hold a solid 'driver' class vintage Corvette and come on out to 'play' with your fellow NCRS club members!!!!!!!

          Re: Common concern....

Thanks Jack. I appreciate your response. We used to show our 62 at many NCCC shows. In the past several years, we have been driving and enjoying the car. I think it's time to re-up my dues and take it to the next local NCRS meet. Thanks so much, Steve.
