    C2- 67 small block radiator

The one in the car I recently purchased has been replaced by a ..small block Harrison radiator with tanks?? Everthing as far as connections etc is correct. Can any one point me to where to buy a used or reproduction rad that is correct. Is there any issues that suggest not buying a used original equipment rad, if I can find one? Thank you is advance for your assistance.

Dewitts - www.dewitts.com - produces an exact reproduction of the original "316" Harrison aluminum radiator along with the aluminum expansion tank - very high quality pieces. You can have both built with date stamps appropriate for you car.

Glenn- From personal experience last fall, don't fool around with CU core rads - repros or otherwise. The original was AL, and it should stay that way. Duke's recommendation to check DeWitt's is EXCELLENT. I did, and am very pleased.

By the way, a CU rad didn't adaquately provide the required cooling in my '67 L-79. The DeWitt's AL did.

My '67 L-79 'keeps its cool'.

Will Dewitt's Tank & Radiator Pass Judging?

Will the DeWitt's Expansion tank & Radiator's pass flight judging without deducts? I am at decision point on my L79 67 Roadster. Do I put the original's back in or go with Dewitt's?

        Thanks,

There are few things in life you can do and be absolutely sure you are doing the right thing before you do it. Buying a Dewitts radiator for your small block is one of them. Regarding judging, there are guys who will tell you they got full credit with one. I guess it depends upon the judge. If you could get a NOS from Harrison, I bet nobody could tell the differance side by side. (well, maybe Tom DeWitt could)

            Jace:

The only difference between the 2 rads came up in discussions on this forum about a year or so ago, regarding a relief groove cut into the bottom surface of the rad. Seems that the original had it in the center, and the DeWitts has it off to one side (or vice versa--but you get the idee). Tom DeWitt was aware of it at the time, and he may have addressed it by now. He is a class act, and pruduces a great product. It is expensive, but really the only way to go. If some boneheaded judge doesn't like it(or even notices it), it will probably amount to a very minimal deduction.

Yes, they will, if you specify to have them dated for your car. Forget the "original" unless you enjoy watching the temp gauge instead of the scenery. 35-year-old radiators have lost a LOT of their original heat transfer capability due to internal scale and corrosion, which forms an insulating layer on the inside of the plates.

                Get the DeWitts radiator.

I believe that the expansion tanks are notceable, and I've seen some receive a deduction. That was a few years back, so....

Your own tank is likely very serviceable, and that's where I would go if it doesn't have any bad dents.
