    C2 M20 Transmission Removal

In the process of replacing the clutch on my 1965 365HP coupe. After reading the shop manual, and searching the archives, I'm looking for some additional information,

    1) Is it absolutely necessary to pull the exhaust pipes to remove the transmission?

    2) If the both pipes need to come off, what's the best way to separate the two sections of each pipe?

    3) Supporting the engine under the oil pan, can the lower section of the oil pan (with a block of wood between the jack and oil pan) handle the load of the engine w/o being crushed/dented?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ted

The drivers side pipe will need the front section removed, the pass side only needs loosened at the exhaust manifold to allow the engine to tilt. You will need to remove the shifter and the mounting bracketry if possible. the oil pan with a block of wood will support the engine, jus get it high ehough to alow the jack to drop the rear of the engine enugh to allow the front of the trans to clear the edge of the bellhousing opening. (Just did it last week)
