C3 68 Half Shaft Suppliers

I am experiencing a sever vibration from the rear while appling power in third and forth gear usually beteewn 55 and 65 mph. My mechanic has narrowed it down to my half shafts. It seems that the previous owner/mechanic must have hammered on them during a repair and they are not balanced.

I've seen these half shafts priced at $129 to $139 in most parts catalogs. Recently saw an ad by Vansteel in "Corvette Enthusiast" pricing them at $80 to $85. Does anyone have an opinion on Vansteel as a corvette part suppiler?

He is an excellent supplier, and I would feel comfortable with anything he sells.

You may want to swap, and send yours in to him as cores, while getting new or rebuilt ones, with the new U-joints already installed. At least, that's what I would do.

The half shafts weren't balanced even when new, so unless yours are REALLY out of whack, I'd place only a 50% odds on your problem being fixed. The u-joints may be the culprit, but I found bad tires to be the cause in my case.
