I have a 1970 with a 5-port windshield washer pump that needs rebuilding. I thought I saw a Restorer article that stated the 5-port pump could be rebuilt using a 3-port pump rebuild kit since two of the outlets go to the right wiper and headlamp and two go to the left wiper and headlamp and the 5th is the inlet. The 3-port kit has three valves instead of 5. The inlet is one on each and the two right and left are separated on a 5-port, but the two right or left hose connections are over the one outlet valve on the 3-port valve part. Does anyone remember the article and can email me it or does anyone know that this will or will not work.

Re: 5-Port Washer Pump Rebuild W/ 3-Port Pump Kit
Think you'll find the nozzle used on the 3-port pump doesn't fit the 5-port pump's cylinder assy because it was slightly larger (cylinder and piston) in order to move more fluid per pump stroke to service both the windshield squirters as well as the headlight squirters. Unearthing 5-port pump spare parts is akin to a nightmare and equally scarry in terms of cost!
What's typically done for a 'driver' application is to replace the 5-port pump with a 3-port pump and use t-adaptors to 'splice' the WSW nozzle hoses to the HL nozzle hoses and accept a modest decrease in fluid flow per pump stroke....
BTW, until you know what's actually wrong with your original 5-port pump do NOT toss anything out! Even internal components like the pump cylinder/piston have a significant residual value and it IS possible (within reason) to repair broken pump pieces....- Top
