    ROCKER PANEL SCREW

The judging manual for a 66 calls for the screw that attaches the lower section of the rocker panel to be a hex head. The AIM calls for part # 9421851. Does anyone know the specification of this or where I may get a hex head attachment screw. The rocker panels had phillip head screws and LICS sent those also. Any help would be appreciated.

It looks exactly like the sample screw that I gave you.

      After reflection, a corrected response

I believe it might look similar to that screw I gave you which I think came off a '64 (maybe). Of course, I am too lazy tonight to go look up the AIM references to see if a '64 rocker screw has the same part number as a '66 rocker screw. Perhaps tomorrow.

Point in fact, I am too old to even remember exactly what that screw looks like that I probably gave someone a couple of years ago. By the way, was that you?

I thought it was Brian Wilson... or Dennis, or Carl.

            Maybe not.

I too have a 1966, I have read the JG, and I have in hand non-hex head screws from a vendor. Today, I happened to be at a large midwestern show where several "unaltered" specimens were being examined, and I put my head under several 1966's and NONE had hex head screws. ?!

Thanks for checking. I have owned my car for thirty three years and when we removed the rocker panels they were Phillip head black screws and rusted. I still have them but at the regional a judge docked me two points for not being per the manual and I accepted that mine were changed the first four years of life, why only gods knows, but now believe they were original and the manual is wrong. I know that is hard to believe!

Robert - "Me thinks" the '66 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide is in err on this topic. I checked the boxes my '66 is in and found the bag of screws for the rocker panels. It has Phillips head screws (rusty) with (equally rusty) integral flat washers; plus other Phillips head screws; but NO HEX head screws to be seen. My experience is that previous owners did not replace things on this car unless they failed to function; so I have every reason to believe these are the "original" fasteners. I also checked with one of the fellows down here who has knowledge of his car and has known the car as long as you have owned yours and black phillips head screws with integral washers are what are on it. Hope this helps. Pete
