    L72 427/425 block fittings

    Three questions re 66 L72 427/425 original motor :

1)re oil pressure fitting by the oil filter that reduces from the larger block orifice thread size to accept the smaller oil pressure line fitting - Curious if the original fitting was brass or steel and if it was installed by Tonowanda plant (ie painted) or St Louis (unpainted?)

2)were the original oil galley plugs hex or square head design ?

    3) I could not find above detail in the AIM - is there an available factory assembly manual (AIM) for the 427 L72 from Tonowanda plant or similar quide ?

Thanks in advance for you input

    Peter
We currently have what I BELIEVE to be an original example of this configuration in the shop now.
I can't vouch for the paint vs unpainted oil fitting but this one is brass.
The galley plugs are hex, (allen)

jerry i do not want the start a pissing contest but a lot of BBC oil gallery plugs along the pan rail were square hole as i made a a special tool to hold square lathe tool bits i used to remove them. since i was not looking for points on the engines i build i replaced them with hex hole type.

        Never a problem Clem
I'll bow to your experience anythime and I can not vouch for this particular cars absolute origianlity. Hell, the only way I'd do that was if I were the original owner

Clem and Jer - my 66 942 block I am building up for my 66 also had square head plugs in the oil galley when I pulled them, as does another 942 block I have. Can I say they were originally there?....no, but they sure look like they were and came out like they were...Craig
