    Turbo-400 Trans Question

    Hi all -

Quick question. My 71 auto convertible has a tendancy to not smoothly engae into reverse even at a curb idle of 600. It kind of bangs and engages fine but it does this mostly when the car is cold even after I kick the throttle down to curb idle. I have no issues in drive. Is this an adjustment, ujoint, or the tranny mount/differential carrier mount or something in the tranny?

    Thanks is advance -

    Pat

It sounds like the transmission mount is craked all the way through. I have had this happen before.

        Re: Turbo-400 Trans Question

One idiosyncrasy of the '71 CEC system is for the carb's CEC solenoid to fire (obtain elevated curb idle + dist vac advance) in reverse as well as in forward high gear(s). This is ONLY true of A/T cars and not for stick shift....

As a byproduct, that CEC system 'funny' stress tests your drive train U-joints along with the rear end's 'snubber' bumper.

I notice when you put the car in reverse, the butt-end lifts up. Any ideas?

Pat; that is funtion of the torque leverage on the suspension. The opposite happens when you put it in drive, the rear end goes down.
