    C3 Exhaust Pipes

Going to order a set of pipes for my 1970. There are none on it now so I am confused as to where they attach. I know that they attach to the manifolds and then attach near the transmission near the two holes in the frame and then thru the two holes in the frame but dont know where they attach until the mufflers attach to the muffler hangers. Where between the transmission and the mufflers? A photo would be great because I am stumped. Thanks

Don the exhaust pipes from the exhaust manifolds will end at the exhaust bracket that fits over the rear transmission mount and the transmission sits on top of this exhaust bracket. The exhasut pipes for the rear go through the frame and fit over the front pipes, you will want to center the rear pipes in these two frame holes. There are two exhaust brackets for 1970 at the rear of the transmission. One for the 2 inch exhaust pipes and one for the 2 1/2 inch exhaust system. My 70 came with the smaller exhaust pipes. When it came time for replacement I changed to the larger system. The only thing I had to change was the exhaust bracket at the transmission which I got from GM to install the 2 1/2 inch system. The 2 1/2 inch exhaust system bolts to the original exhaust manifolds because it starts at the exhaust manifold connection point as 2 inch and expand to 2 1/2 inch about 6-8 inches from the connection point. Since you are buying a new exhaust system you have the option of which system you want to use. This information is based on the 350 engines in 1970.

I can't help you with the question of where they are attached.....but, I have a '72, that I just purchased. It has a set of aluminized 2-1/2" chambered exhaust on it that is almost brand new. They are too loud for me, so I am ordering a set of 2-1/2" standard (i.e. "with mufflers") exhaust for it. I would take the chambered off, complete, and sell them to you for half what they cost new?

I thought that the chambered pipes were too loud at first, too. Then after a few months of hearing the sound, I really started to love them.
I'm 15 months later, and miss the sound since the car is tucked away in storage while my other car is in the garage in preparation for Hershey. Between my rebuilt distributor and that chambered exhaust, the car is much more fun than it used to be.
