My 65 sales brochure says a 3.08 will give you 25.6 MPH for every 1000 engine RPMs. Sounds like you have a 3.08. It also ays figures are estimated with no allowance for slippage or tire expansion.

The 3.36 gives 23.1 MPH for every 1000 engine RPMs.

These old sales brochures are pretty cool with the frame, birdcage, suspension, and drivetrain cut-aways. The technicial specs are very interesting. I wish modern sales manuals had the same approach but I suppose most people simply do not care.

This is the rear end I want to get 3.70's, and was wondering how it would be mph vs rpm! Thanks so much Larry

        3.70 Rear Gears

On my '60, the tach reads 1/2 the speedo reading, ie., 3000 rpm at 60 mph. Really makes the engine scream on those long 80 mph trips to Colorado.

          Larry,
Data from the '65 sales brochure:

          3.08:1 = 25.6 MPH per 1000 RPM
          3.36:1 = 23.1
          3.55:1 = 22.2
          3.70:1 = 21.3
          4.11:1 = 19.2
          4.56:1 = 17.0

factoid: convertable uses 31 fiberglass panels and the coupe uses 35.

I highly recommend picking one of these up for your car. You can get them on EBAY for about $12. I bring it around to shows people who are interested in the car find the sales brochure really interesting.
