Rally Wheel Paint Color - Black

I just had my Rally Wheels sandblasted and epoxy primed. Now I need to paint them black.

i have the "Argent Silver" paint from one of the well known vendors, but what is the corect black paint for the back side of the wheels?

Brand, finish and code # if possible?

    Thanks,
    Jim #33086

If you primed with DP-90lf in black, just paint the front side silver.

Sycamore Hi-Tech semi-gloss black works for me.

        Members,
I'm a little curious about this rally wheel backside color issue. I know that most of the documentation shows the backside color to be black; however, when I removed the spare wheel and tire from my '65 for the first time in over 30 years and found something to the contrary. I believe that the wheel that I found is indeed a '67 rally wheel but the backside color is the GM universal grey. The front side is painted silver. What do all of you make of my discovery?

I have some original Impala rally wheels that are gray on the back. They are off a 70 model. Look like Vette but have a different stamping.

Gene, I don't know midyears, but I suppose that 67 rally wheels aren't date coded? If they are, you could compare the date with the car's build date; that would quickly tell you if the wheel is a service replacement added to the car somewhere along the way. Of course, if you are the original owner of the car you would know.

On the other hand, the minimal silver painting of only the outside sounds like factory rather than an owner or dealer addition. Another possiblility I suppose is that the wheel is original, but (black) production wheel shortages required some artful substitution of other K-H production (service replacement wheels?) to keep the line moving. It should be noted that later service replacement wheels, at least 70 and up, were black.

Stuff like this keeps the hobby interesting for me.
