    Side exhaust extension 65

The 65 aim shows a pipe extension where the pipe attaches to the manifold for the side mounted exhaust. What is the purpose of this extension? It seems to me it just adds some reinforcment as it doesn't extend anything. And in parenthesis it says L78 & L79. Does this mean it was only used on those two engines? And was it used on both sides? Thanks

    Re: Side exhaust extension 65

I'd have called them "inserts"; they're used on all '65 side exhaust pipes (both sides); act to position the "packing" (to prevent buckling inward and losing the exhaust seal, I think). Apply to both (ie. all) sidepipe configurations in '65 (incl. L75 manual trans and L76. Non-sidepipe front exhaust pipes already have this "extension" tack-welded in place -- don't know why they didn't do the same for N14, rather than call out a separate part.
