    tie rods left or right?

Is there a pre assemble length that GM used to put the front tie rods on? and there are 2 left and 2 right ends with this kit. Yes, one right and one left goes on each one of the sleeves. But does it matter which end goes toward the outside of the car (dog bone side) Ex: driverside : left end of tie rod meets the dogbone (left side of car?) vise versa ?? or am I making this too hard?? jc

    Chester----

If your kit is a kit with 4 tie rod ends, there should be 2 outers and 2 inners. The outers are the ones with normal, right hand threads and the inners have left hand threads.

As far as a "pre-assmbly" length, I'm sure that GM had a spec for it. The problem is, we'll probably never know what it was. That's because the front steering linkage was delivered to St. Louis as an assembly which was produced at some GM component operation. Their specs would be difficult to find. Your best bet would be to measure the length of the old assemblies which came of your car or, if you don't have them, then measure the lengths of another "on-road" 68-82 Corvette. That will be a good starting point. Adjust the length of each tie rod assembly BY TURNING IN EACH TIE ROD END AN EQUAL NUMBER OF TURNS ON EACH SIDE until you achieve the target length.

I am then going to assume that the ones marked "R" are the Right hand thread if they are the normal clockwise turn.(I"LL check)they are. The ones marked "L" if turned in the clockwise fashion come out of the sleeve, hence these "L" ends would be toward the motor, not toward the wheel. correct??

The orientation of the rods as you described it is correct.
