The original paint color codes are in the archives. Unfortunately no one can mix those colors as the pigments are no longer available.

Once you have the original codes you can call PPG's color librarian at (440) 572-6111 and she will give you a current "offset color" that is as close of a match as you will find. When they discontinued the old pigments, PPG cross referenced all their old color formulas to new ones so that we could continue to paint our old jalopies a color that resembles the original color.

Any "original" paint that you find will have faded in the last 45 years so it is worthless for color matching. I doubt that anybody knows for sure what the "right" colors are for these old cars. Go to a show and you won't see two of these cars that are exactly the same color, unless they both used the offset color from PPG.

I spent way too much time researching this about 2 years ago when I had my 56 painted. I was somewhat disappointed when I finally convinced myself that there is no way to get an "exact" match to the original color.

    Good Luck!

I found my paint through BASF . I used their Inca Silver for the coves on my 57. I used the RPO number and they came up with the formula, I'm not 100% sure it would match the paint of 45 years ago but if not it's close. Bob

Info I have for Venetian Red. Ditzler 70694, Dupont Duco 2415-1-1, R-M 56V52.
My 56 is painted with PPG DDL71708 SC, Carnival Red, which is a Acrylic Lacquer. The mix ratio for this color one (1) gallon is:

          code color Cumulative Parts

          DMA311 white 74.3 74.3

          DMA361 red 363.5 289.2

          DMA336 orange 1149.2 785.6

          DMA356 orange 4044.4 2895.2

I use American Finishes SuperCryl SC-40064-RE Red Fleet 44128 Imron Acrylic Enamel for my wheels. It is a perfect color match for the PPG mix.
