C2-Looking for fuel tank sending unit tool vendor

Anyone know where I can find a fuel tank sender tool for the locking ring on my '65 gas tank? Thanks...

i use a brass drift punch and hammer to rotate the locking ring during disassembly and re assembly. guess you could fabricate a tool but why reinvent the wheel. good luck, mike

I strongly discourage the hammer and drift pin method - you can buy a tool specifically designed for sending units at Corvette Central.

Thanks Mike H., I never intended to use the hammer and drift pin method. Last thing I need is a leak or bent up metal. It's only $15, even if only used once.

          Consider....

asking fellow members of your local NCRS chapter. Being able to borrow this/that special tool for one-shot use is another reason to join and get active in NCRS at the local level!

I got mine at LI Corvette and it works very well...seems like it was about $15 if I recall....Craig

              I'm wondering

why you strongly disagree using a BRASS punch and a hammer. Do you just like to spend money for a one time usage for a tool?

mike. i'm wondering too. i've probably replaced 20 to 30 midyear and c-3 fuel tank senders with the brass punch/hammer technique in last 30 years and i've had to re do a few for various reasions not related to distortion of the retainer.. none presented a problem. i should have specified that a 5# maul won't get it.gently tap retainer off with brass punch and light blows of 8 0z.hammer. reinstall sender with silicone lubricated rubber o-ring. if tool is only $15 bucks, think i'll look into one as it may be quicker.mike

                  Re: I'm wondering

I used the brass punch method on my 67 to remove the sender, no problems. But, I saw the tool at LI corvette and ordered it along with some parts, and it is pretty slick, but I am a tool freak anyway. I buy tools that I never use, this was one I actually did!....Craig

Rather spend $15 than screw it up! *NM*
