1977 Corvette 3970014 block

In the area where the casting date is on an 010 right rear flange all I found was conv1 and a large T 6. Where is the casting date on a 014? This is a very early 77 with an orange block and the stamp pad appears correct with the body build date but I need the cast date for the year. Is the T-6 a date? Lyle

0014 cylinder cases have the casting date on the driver's side right above the 3970014, on the rounded part for the upper two of the vertical bell housing bolts. The date will read horizontally, in the usual format - alpha character, one or two numbers for the day of the month, and two numbers for the year. You will find the year portion of the date has two digits = 77, as was the Tonawanda practice.

The T in the T6 is for Tonawanda, where the 0014 cases were cast. We see a lot of these in 1972 MY Corvettes.

Did we ever do an article on what those funny date codes were in some C3s. I seem to remember that someone was going to do the article, but I can't recall if it ever happened (old age is getting to me).

Yes Ed there was an article about the M coded cylinder cases, Volume 27, #1, Spring 2001. Gene Gamach was the author.
