Re: 68 Aluminum Heads & Overheating
Wayne,
Sorry I didn't check in sooner. Thanks for the updated info on the head gaskets, which are still a concern on my checklist. What I'm about to say isn't based on stupidity, it's my genuine lack of knowledge. (I'm really not as knowledgeable as my postings may (or may not!) make me appear.)
I only "visually" observed the diagonal strip in the oil drain back galley, and it's been a few weeks. What I seem to remember is that it was two kinds of colors, silver and blue, one of them (which I don't now remember) being dots (or "speckles"). Of course it was coated with oil which may have given it a kind of blue tint, but I seem to remember it being more that than any sort of red. This is going to be just about as scientific but: I'm assuming that's a composite.
If I'm able to get the chance I'll take off the valve covers this weekend and have another look. Hopefully I can post back about this sometime soon (I do have a job and a family that's getting fussy with me again). Thanks Wayne.
