    '67 Front Grille

I've been thinking of buying a new '67 reproduction grille, since two of the mounting tabs on my original were broken many years ago, before I owned the car. Does anyone here know who the licensed GM reproduction company is, who now reproduces them from the original tooling and molds?

I've heard here that the current reproduction grilles sold now having a lot of excess casting flash since the molds are worn out, and are not as nice as the originals. Any truth to this? Thanks Patrick

Patrick - I have an older NOS grille tucked away for my 67 and a recent (last year) purchase of an NOS grille about the same time the GM Restoration part came about for my 66. I didn't think much about it at the time, but heard the same comments as you while in Bloomington last week. I need to pull them both out and compare, but I remember them both looking very nice. Maybe the flashing is on the back of the grille....Craig

I recently ordered a new grille for my 67 from my GM dealer. GM part number and all. I haven't opened the box and I can't recall the part number. This may be a GM restoration part,I'm not sure. I will be happy to look at the item and get the number tommorow if you would like.

Glenn _ I am pretty sure this will be the GM Restoration part. The box looks like regular GM boxes...maybe I have the same on the part I bought last year. Inside, there were green foam blocks on the ends protecting the unit inside, I have noted these on the GM restoration parts. The old old NOS unit I have was in a box from the 70's, so I am curious to compare the two. Still glad I could get it though, the part is much better than no grill for my 66! Craig

Hi Craig. I'll check the packaging out tommorow. I certainly don't expect it to be NOS GM but it wouldn't bother me if it was. Thanks for the info, Glenn

To the best of my knowledge GM still produces these grilles. I have purchased several in the past few years all have excessive leading edge flashing to the point of cutting fingers.
I went through seven GM sealed boxes in Ecklers warehouse two years ago looking for a clean grille for my 67, all were the same, all were garbage IMO
            Good Luck

Thx Jer - and I thoguht they were a GM restoration part. I will check my 'newer" one for the flashing you mention. I know the early 70's unit was nice....Craig

                Good Luck Craig
I don't know at what point the dies became worn enough that the flashig became so pronounced. In the case of old stock it is probably the luck of the draw

Thanks to everyone for the information; I was sure they where repro's since the vendor price is now up to $400 from $375 a few months ago. I guess I better hurry up and buy one.

I hope all of you patriots have an enjoyable 4th of July weekend. The USA has been around for a long time. These are trying times we can't afford to let the terrorist's and their supporting Nations try to intimidate us. As they say in Texas.....Bring em on!!!!! I love that kind of talk. God Bless America.

Damn straight Patrick! Happy Independance Day to all! We don't appreciate our freedom like we should, but if anything good came out of the last couple years, maybe a heightened sense of appreciation is there for some of our country's younger citizens....and let's give a salute to our men and women overseas!....Craig
