    67 coupe 327 or 427

Would this be the proper forum to request any leads on a 67 coupe of original equipment (matching numbers)? I intend to join the society and begin the restoration of a coupe if I could find such an object. Could anyone "out there" offer any advice to a total rookie? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would join NCRS if I were you and take a look in the Driveline, the monthly publication of NCRS with all of the classified ads. You will be more likely to get a quality car from a NCRS member, (but still exercise due diligence) than you would from other sources. Be patient, it took me 7 months to find a quality Midyear coupe.

Stay away from the "Dealers" out there. They all stink, IMHO.

Reinforce advice. Join NCRS. Join and get active in your local chapter. Both actions can be done by contacting NCRS Membership in Cincy (see home page) even on the phone via charge card. How convenient!

Next, RESIST that urge to burn cash and get a car! Attend a few chapter meetings and a judging meet or two. Volunteer to be an observer judge (hold the clipboard and write comments/scores). See how the system works and what factory concours folks look for.

You may not want a high originality pristine Corvette, but you'll learn, understand and have fun! You may want to go whole hog and have the fun of restoring a car and campaigning it after the experience. You may want a car in 'reasonably' original condition that you can drive AND show. Point is NCRS has more ways to earn recognition, learn about Corvettes and have fun with 'em than any other organization I know.

Plus, you'll make local contacts that can help you find that car and/or restore/preserve it without spending the GNP. The worst that can happen is you decide this sport isn't your cup of tea and you're out a whooping $60 -- GREAT INSURANCE POLICY!

Last, start building a support library for that classic Corvette investment you intend to make. The folks who sold and maintained these older vehicles are basically retired now. So, with a library to consult you'll understand, enjoy, and keep your car running right without paying through the nose even if you don't turn your own wrench and have others do the work for you. Have fun, enjoy!

            Ronald,

Good advice from the others, but I would order the books and start reading, so that when you actually get to a chapter meet, Bloomington Gold, or even the local car show you will be able to start evaluating cars in your head, even if they are not ones you would consider buying.

IMHO, I would buy the 1967 Judging Guide, the 63-67 Vette Vues Fact book by M.F. Dobbins, and the Vol 2 Corvette Restoration & Techinical Guide by Noland Adams. These 3 will get you well on your way to understanding your 67 purchase, no matter what you end up buying. Heck, if you can remember everything in these 3 books alone, you should be a Chapter Judging Chairman. I've read the Adams book 5 times or more, and still learn more each time.

The NCRS office has the best price on all 3, so join and order all in one phone call.
