Does anyone have the part numbers for the points on the dual point fuelie dist? I need to change my points and the local dealerships no longer carry point so current part number would be great. Also any reccomendations on where to get the points would be great. I am not sure if any set of points will do.
If Standard still makes their "Blue Streak" points, they would be a good choice. I've never had to change the points in my FI distributer, but there doesn't appear to be anything special about them.
They are nothing more than two sets of '55 V-8 Chevy points. I believe the dual point condenser had a shorter pigtail on it. I don't know if the value of the condenser is different. Echlin, sold by NAPA, were making these points at least a few years ago. The Blue Streaks are supposed to be good also, as Ed says. I don't know where you can buy them.
Blue Streak still makes them - got them at my local FLAPS (but they had to order them in); they'll show two listings - one with an "R" in the part number, and one without. Order the ones with the "R" in the number - they're heavy-duty, and are much more substantial. I'm on the road now, or I'd give you the complete number.
have been using very old service replacement points made by Mallory that i picked up years ago at the local speed shop. if you guys have old established speed shops, you might check for the mallory brand.their spring tension is about 2x that of the delco points, hence point bounce will be at a much higher rpm. ones in my 57 fi regularly see 8 grand on the stock tack(which isn't too accurate since its generator driven with fan belt slipage a possibility). if you guys find a truckload of mallorys, i could use a haft dozen pairs, thanks, mike
Thanks for the help guys and I agree with Mike I would like what Jerry and Bill have to sat as I havent been able to see their post for several hours. Internal server error is all I get.
I just mentioned that D-106P is the delco number, I look for NOS ones at swap meets since the current supply is not so good since the old Delco-Remy plants were closed.
My earlier post was about recent problems I've had with Blue Streak points. Two sets have failed in the same way within the last year: the moving contact face fell off.
The first problem set was in a customer's '67. The contact came off one night as he entered a freeway. This was about 1,000 miles after my tune-up work. The second set came apart on me (in a customer's '66) during a 4 mile test drive after a tune-up.
The parts store replaced the points for free, but that was long after the inconvenience of walking home. The counterman said mine weren't the first that had been returned after failure.
I don't know what's going on at Standard. They used to be the best name in ignition parts. Maybe they've decided to go the way of Delco.
Sorry to hear the old standby is not what it once was. Sorry, too, that you had to hike to find out. Maybe it will save me a hike in the future because I won't be looking for Blue Streaks when tune up time comes!
The only ones I could find were the Borg Warner select Nascar series. They have a very good feel to them and seem much beefier than some of the cheap ones I saw. They were the only ones I saw with a screw hole so I can attach the condenser and wire the coil. They re adjusted close now and it is running much better than before. I just need to fine tune a couple degrees more tomorrow. Thanks for all the advice.
I have a old used set of Mallory points that I could not throw away because of the quality. I also liked the condensor with the big M on one end, quality piece. These will always be my backup set.
