Gas Tank for 63

There are (2) different gas tanks, presently on Ebay (2422416685 and 2422292475)The coating is nickle-tin. Is that the same coating that was used on the original tanks ?(I think they were galvanized). Do these offered tanks pass judging ? Who sells tanks, which would pass as the best reproduction ?

agree with pat. quanta, gary whitting, advertises in driveline, has near perfect replacement for you midyear.nobody else even close if you are into judging. mike

I agree, Quanta is the way to go. I did take a 66 class at BG a couple weeks ago though, and through some photos in that class, coparing original to Qunata (the only game in town with the O L Anderson logo) you can see the difference, so some judges may note that, but there is no other choice even close. The give away on the Quanta is the area where the big A join the circle in the logo, the originals have flat feet and a top hat look to the A where it joins the large circle, the Quanta is missing this detail. Not sure why they didn't duplicate it exactly given they have the rights, but the difference is something that can be noticed easily once you know what to look for....Craig

Craig,

It may have to do with wear of the original die. I was in contact with Quanta quite a bit when they first got the contract for the Anderson tanks, and I know they have the original tooling (or at least did).

I believe Anderson went out of business shortly thereafter, and they may have lost the original tooling at that time.

Interesting Patrick.....but it appears to more than tooling, there is a definite difference in the treatment of the "A" on the top and two feet. Helene Zanadsky (hope I didn't butcher her name) and Pete Lindahl gave us the class, and she had some great photos of the OLA logo, both from Quanta and original. There was a definite difference. Hmmm if they had the original dies though...interesting. I will need to pull my 67 original tank out of storage (better yet, I should get it installed on the car!) and look. I recently purchased a Quanta tank for my 64, and it appears to be an exact reproduction. I checked the logo against my original for the flaws you mentioned, and I can't see where the "A" on the Quanta tank is any different than on the original. I paid special attention to the "feet" and "hat" on the "A". They look identical to me. If Quanta had a problem with the tooling, they must have fixed it.

Phil - that is GREAT to hear. Maybe the picture Helene had was a past version, glad to know that the "feet" look the same. I may need a new tank for my 66 and am glad the logo is the same. If you can take a picture and email it to me, I can send it to Helene for her records...if not I understand but thanks for the info!....Craig

Try the link below. There should be a picture of the logo. It is exactly the logo seen on my original tank and on the one purchased from Quanta. I'll email you photos of my tanks tomorrow.
