    Re: Bonding Adhesive

    Dave,

Do the panels look like factory on the inside? What color are they?

      Re: Bonding Adhesive needs heat

I don't know if you read the cure time for fusor ez127 it still suggests one hour of 140 degree heat but the rep states that it will cure in48 hrs but only develops a 65 to 70 percent bond without heat ,but still stronger then the original adhesive and the surface modifier also adds about 20 percent to the bite on SMC panels and even more on some of the plastics.I haven't used ez127 yet But have used lots of ez100 on APV vans which gives you lots more working time when putting on a side panel ,rear door opening and roof then just add heat.Don't fill the seams with 100 or 127
Use the cosmetic 102 or 147 adhesive and sand it as soon as possible if you wait till later its just like sanding cement.
It still shrinks with bondline showthru.
But suggest you use the factory type Black filler ,if no SMC panels are used

3m rigid parts adhesive works well as the newly acquired 3m duramix system.

        Re: Bonding Adhesive needs heat

Has anyone used adhesives common in marine applications? I used West System Epoxy mixed with fiber filler to make the bonding adhesive when I hung a quarter on my Wife's 75. The marine industry sewers by West System Epoxies. I'm sure a die (such as lamp black ) could be added to match color of the bonding material used on Corvettes.

Great for fiberglass panels, but not SMC (Sheet molded compound)a grey black marble color panel, some call SMC press molded,But press molded should be a solid resin color, not marble
I,ve seen marine resins smoke and then fall off SMC panels.

You can make any color with the marine type toners for gelcoat,In finish coat resin or fiberglass gel or paste and everfix 2 part epoxy mixed with cotten fiber or microglass beads or just running some fiberglass mat thru the old food processor makes a super seam filler add some black gelcoat toner. Will check out West systems.I use alot of Evercoat products,
In fact last week was the first time I ever sprayed premixed gelcoat where a six foot rip in a fiberglass swimming pool had been repaired.
Here is their site, there glazeing putty is the best, sands like drywall compound
