Photos From SACC Flint 50th Event

Use the link below to view an album of my pics from the SACC Flint Corvette 50th Birthday Party; includes the end of the parade at Al Serra Chevrolet, the show there, the gathering of 53's at the original Corvette assembly building (I worked there from '66-'70 when it was the Chevrolet Pilot Line), the rest of the '54-'62's filled in behind them, and the red-shirted original '53 Corvette assemblers at the plant and at the Corvette 50th Birthday Dinner that night. Each one of them introduced themselves at the dinner and described the operation they performed on the '53 assembly line ("If your '53 right hand door doesn't fit, it's my fault") It was truly inspiring, and a really great weekend that celebrated the Corvette heritage with the people that made it all happen.

Pretty cool! Is that the original Corvette Nomad...or a retro? So where's the audio of the guys talking?

The Nomad is a very nicely-done piece of custom bodywork, not a restoration of anything that was born that way - it was fascinating nonetheless. Someone else that was there may have video and audio - I was just shooting stills.

Dunno, Clem - I didn't notice (or I noticed and forgot - CRS, ya know)

              Clem,
There can't be more than one of those, can there? I doubt Chevrolet uncovered the original.

TERRY: DON'T THINK GM UNCOVERED THE ORIG WHICH WASN'T AS LARGE AS THE BEAUTIFULLY CONSTRUCTED BLUE NOMAD THAT WAS BORN IN PENNA AND APPEARS TO BE THE SAME ONE IN THE FLINT PHOTOS. MIKE

I briefly talked to the guy in Flint that built it and I'm pretty sure he said that he was from PA. I also saw him in Monterey last August. Neat car!

Right after I posted my speculation about the near-Nomad I remembered that there are significant differences between the one that was in Monterey and at Seven Springs, and the original. DUHH! CRS Strikes again! I can't begin to imagine the amount of work he went through to make that. Probably on the order of a 1962 ZR1. See you soon Mike.

                      Corvette Nomad at Palo Alto

Hi All, There was an elegant Corvette Nomad repro (according to it's owner) in the Palo Alto Ca. Concours d'Elegance this past June and it looked like the same car. There were about 140 other 'vettes there from '53 on up. It was a great show !
