    Mid Year Heater Core

Looks like it's time to replace a leaking heater core in my '64. Does GM still offer one or do I need to go to the aftermarket vendors? If anyone has done this recently please advise as to the best route to take. thanks Blake

    Blake,
IMO since this item is NOT judged, get a new repop (GM doesn't make one any more). I do not recommend getting the original re-cored. I recommend getting new seals as well.

You could buy original cores from an AC Delco dealer as recently as 5 years ago. doubt they're discontinued. I've had NO trouble re-coring the C-1 heater cores as they were discontinued before god made dirt. mike

This time of year I would just bypass the heater core and enjoy driving the car. Late November or December would work for me as a repair time. The car will be cooler without it connected.

I did this in my 66 and it isn't that difficult. If you have the past issues of The Restorer (last 2-3 years??) there is an excellent article (I think by Gary Beaupre) on doing this in a non-ac midyear. No need to go for a repro when all of the catalog companies sell a suitable core.

I just purchased a new Delco Heater Core from Long Island. Looks identical to my original core. I will be installing it this week.
