Gas gauge quit working. spent 150.00 on a replacement sending unit. it worked for a few days, then quit. gauge registers 1/4 tank, whether full or empty. checked the ground wire which attaches at the base of the sending unit and it is plugged in ok. what other grounding problems might i have? is it possible i "blew" the new sending unit somehow? if so, what kind of (incorrect) and cheap chevrolet sending unit will work.

Tom----
What makes you think that the sending unit is "blown"? I'd test it before I threw it out. The procedure is described in posts in the archives or the service manual. In fact, perhaps your original sending unit was not the source of your problem, either.
In any event, I can tell you this: there is no other sending unit that will work in your application, cheap or otherwise. Heaven forbid the day that GM stops producing it, too.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
