    Re: C1 WINDSHIELD SOURCE

I bought a new one from corvette central it was not dated. I found it to be high quality with no distortions, it came by truck and was well packaged in a box marked PPG Glass. Later, a friend of mine who specializes in Auto Glass said he could get one cheaper. So unless you are looking for a dated one try your local glass guy first. No matter where you get it check it for distortions before anyone installs it. I ended up getting a guy from Novus to put it in. He came to the house and did it for like $80. IT was difficult to install because I used a new rubber seal. I do most everything myself on my 57 but this job was more than I wanted to try. I did take it off the car and disassembled it so all he did was put the glass in the frame. AS another point, I installed longer studs in the corner molding for mounting to the body.
the corner moulding does not have any stops and the stud will screw into the glass and break it (thus the reason I was replacing my wind shield) Good Luck

larry's observation(painful as it was) is a point worth mentioning as the all- thread studs in the corner post can wind on up in the threaded posts and make contact with the glass resulting in cracks. also worthy of note are the correct postioning on the t-shaped threaded studs along the bottom of the windshield frame that also attach the assembled windshield assembly to the cowl. if these little fellas, the t-shaped studs, are bumped out of their channel and you begin to tighten down the frame assembly , the t-studs malpositioned in the channel will fracture the windshield. been there. good luck, mike

Just got one from Classic that advertises in Hemmings. Much cheaper than anybody else. It's PPG and looks fine. Anybody know a source for the T-bolts Mike mentioned.

If you are looking for a original replacement LOF try OEM Glass. The charge for the windshield is $339.00. The date coding costs $45. Shipping run $70.00 via UPS to most destinations. They also have the replacement gasket if needed. It runs $49.00. They have most windshields in stock and can ship within 48 hours. Contact David Harris OEM Glass, 1-800-283-2122 . I hope this helps.

            Joe ...

While you have your windshield off, make sure the posts are welded to solve the broken tab problem. Also I think Corvette Central will add the date log. If you plan to replace the channel and lower weatherstrip, plan for plenty of time to stretch the rubber over the glass, insert the upper/lower nut plates and assemble the posts. Patience is the word...

                Re: C1 WINDSHIELD SOURCE

I only paid $189 + $85 for shipping. I didn't ask the cost for date coding, but they offered.
