Help in Search for Rear End Part

Am trying to help a friend and long time NCRS member, Tom Stewart, find a differential case for a 4 series positraction rear end for his 65 Stingray. Tom purchased a 4.11 rear end and stated to rebuild same only to find that the case which carries the ring gear and houses the positraction clutch, etc. was cracked. I have mentioned to him that I have learned a great deal from this discussion board since becoming an NCRS member and he asked that I give this a shot.

So, can anybody lend a hand and provide some ideas as to who might have, or where we might find the differential case descibed above? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks, John NCRS # 29598

    John----

The last issue GM "4" series posi case was GM #3997928. This part was discontinued many years ago. Interestingly, I recently had a relative GIVE me an NOS example of this case for my "private stock", but I'm not interested in parting with it. These cases used to be VERY hard to find. However, your friend is in luck. These cases are now being produced by, I believe, Auburn Gear. In any event, they are available through Ecklers and I'm sure most of the big driveline suppliers like National Drivetrain could fix you up with one.
