I'm getting some conflicting information on radiator support bracing. Specifically what I'm refering to is the "U" shaped reinforcment that is seen on the lower portion of the round rods that cross each other in a "X". I have a very late FI car. Approx July 7th assembly date. My support does not have the "U" reinforcments at the base. The rod are simply welded to the lower support. It does have the flange at the opening for the air inlet. I've had the car 32 years so I'm pretty sure what I have is original, but I didn't buy it new so I don't know everthing that has happened to the car in it's life. I have a friend who has an early very original 66 BB car without the "U" reinforcment and I had an early 66 SB car that did not have them. So it appears sometime in mid calendar year 65 the "U" reinforcments were droped. Just FYI, I have observed that the 63 reinforments were longer and had the appearance of a strap rather that just a "U". Does anyone out there have any thoughts or any more data points on this "U" reinforcement question?

Re: 65 FI radiator support reinforcements
I would say that the "strap" description you refer to is a more accurate way to describe what has commonly been referred to as a "U". That's what is on my '65 FI car, January build though.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 65 FI radiator support reinforcements
Jerry; My 65 F.I. coupe built in early feb. has the strap type only on the bottom, and they are narrow. I have another suport, which is also good, that was purchased at a swap meet that does not have the straps. Don't know about later cars. David- Top

Re: 65 FI radiator support reinforcements
jerry: i've got two 65 fi s, vin 9302 that i've owned since l969 and vin 5094. Both have the small U tab reinforcing the x brace at the bottom. I also have several NORS GM replacements that i got in the 70's. the SERVICE repalcements lack the U tab. mike- Top
