    C2: Distributor Paint/Overspray

Having my dist. rebuilt, and am inquiring as to what correct paint would be for the unit when I put it back together. The unit had some overspray around the base, and was very uneven. Looked like it was squirted at the engine plant. Was there supposed to be black paint on the upper housing? Or was is raw cast iron? I can't tell...

Also, was the Aluminum ID band oversprayed too? There was paint on the band when I got the car, but have since cleaned the band of paint.

    Thanks for the input.

    Dan -

Distributor castings were painted black at Delco-Remy prior to detail assembly and ID band installation. They were in place when the engine was painted, and were "masked" with a can; some overspray would be present at the base on most units.

agree with john and might add that the dist id band was dyed or painted a maroonish red color on just the exposed surface. the dye/paint is available from Quanta (advertises in Driveline) mike
