    RPO engine code

    Is the base motor for the 1971 & 1972 Corvette referred to as ZQ3 or L48? I've seen others post it as L48, I believe the correct term is ZQ3.Is either correct? Which is right.

    ZQ3! L48 RPO began in 1973.

      I agree with Tom; I don't think that the "L48" coding came into use until 1973. However, neither "L-48" nor "ZQ3" represent an "RPO"; they are simply the internal coding which GM used for these components as they use similar, coded nomenclature for many other items installed on the cars, but not directly customer orderable. The term "RPO" is an acronym for "regular production option". Neither "L-48" nor "ZQ-3" were regular production options; they were always standard equipment
