    1965: Unknown Holley Carb

I am unsure of what the model number of the carb on my 65'. It is a Holley four barrel, but the only markings I can find are a list number 1850-s (could be a five, it is scratched up) and a number below that which is 0533. Is the actual model number shown anywhere?

The 1850 IS the model number. The 1850 was made in three different mods---- these were -2, -3, and -4. I expect that yours is a -2.

The 1850 is a universal fit, aftermarket-type carb. It was never originally used on a Corvette or any other PRODUCTION car. It could be used on a Corvette, though, and, in your case, it was so-installed by some previous owner. Universal fit carbs are much less expensive than GM or Holley OEM SERVICE carbs. So, someone may have used it to replace an original Holley carb or used it to "upgrade" an original WCFB or AFB application.

      Joe,

The only Holley reference I can find on line appears to say this is part of the 4160 series. I did not find a reference to one of their products as an 1850. So, to the part numbers and the "product names" not match, or am I missing something. Thanks for the prior response.,

The Holley 1850 is a model 4160 carburetor. During the 60s and 70s, just about all Holley 4 barrels were either model 4150 or 4160. However, there were MANY different specific Holley carburetor part numbers within these series and 1850 is one of them.

I don't know what information may be available on-line regarding an 1850 but I can tell you, for sure, that it existed. It was one of the earlier, aftermarket type, universal-fit Holley carbs. It is of a rating of 600 CFM. As far as I know, it's been out of production for many years having been replaced by others.

They musta made a bazillion, because...

Anyone who was messing with engines in the 60's or 70's has used 'em. They were a cliche' on SB Chevys, Fords, and Mopars. There are better carbs, but these things were everywhere.
